Perimenopause symptoms can start as early as your mid-30s and can last a decade before menopause.

Symptoms such as:

Mood, memory, migraines, weight gain, thryoid issues, increased or new allergies, PMS, PMDD, brain fog, worsening of ADHD symptoms,

Anxiety, breast pain, heart palpitations, night sweats, heavy periods, painful periods, insomnia, vaginal dryness or irritation.

This doesn’t need to be a time of incredible discomfort and worsening of health,

but it can feel that way,

especially when we enter into our perimenopause years with a long history of hormonal imbalances, inflammation, chronic stress, and nutritional deficiencies.

Perimenopause symptoms are temporary, however it is not comfortable, or necessary, to have to live with them for years.

Importantly these years are a critical time for health, it is a time where small health problems, if not addressed, could worsen into long term health problems.

Perimenopause is a time (similar to the post-partum/post-natal period) where the immune system remodels itself, and a time when the brain recalibrates (I want to credit Lara Briden for these explanations), which is why it is a risky time for the worsening of autoimmune diseases and mental health. This is why we can experience a host of mood and cognitive symptoms.

What we need is not to AVOID these changes (we can’t avoid them, at least not forever) but to do what we can so we have a smooth transition from a time of high progesterone to low progesterone. The lowering of progesterone, is what the immune system and brain are reacting to.

Perimenopause as a powerful life phase..

The perimenopause years should be a welcome transition time from your creator/fertile/nurturing years

into your SOVEREIGN years - what does this mean?

In our 20s and 30s we are often building - careers, humans, relationships, often give, give, giving - then from late 30s through 40s and 50s we enter a phase of life which is not as honoured and embraced by modern society as it once was: where your energy and magic can flow more into your power and independence. This is essential in order not to end up completely depleted.

Modern society - especially in the realm of health - can disempower this phase of life with emphasising a view of the disintegration of health, beauty and vitality, rather than the evolution and transition into a new phase of incredible vitality, power, and calm.

What we need is a better understanding of how our health and needs are evolving: hormone transitions, bone density, muscle mass, weight, mental health and mood, sex and libido.

What works now for your health - physical, mental, emotional, spiritual - will likely be very different to what worked before!
